Crystal Dixon, who happens to be a black woman, has been fired by the University of Toledo in clear violation of her civil rights. She lost her job because she wrote a guest column in the newspaper stating her views on homosexuality, and those views are not shared by the university. She did not write on behalf of the university, although she did note her employment there. The gist of her argument is that homosexuality, unlike being a black woman, is a choice. WTVG has the story.
So a staff member of a major university cannot voice her views off campus unless her views are consistent with those of the university president. What other institution puts its members in such an intellectual straight jacket – the military, the church, big business?
Today’s university remains a very uncivil and intolerant environment.
