Gong Show Reprise
Comedy Central plans a new version of the “Gong Show.” It’ll never work.
The premise of the old “Gong Show” from the 1970s and 80s required real celebrities with some generally acknowledged level of talent to judge quirky and off-beat amateurs. The celebrity ranks of today, however, are filled with amateurs, famous for being . . . well, famous.
The new show will be like having the Gong Show contestants judging Gong Show contestants. There’s nothing particularly interesting about that.
